I am extraordinarily lazy and hate having to look it up. If you add an app, please include the link and use the BBCode so all I need to do is cut and paste it into the links. When an app is posted, I would like to see at least 1 or 2 others second it for inclusion before I add it. This list will be edited to reflect any additions that are we all feel need to be included. I have no problem adding them to the list if there seems to be a lot of call for them. Some of the applications suggested were very narrowly focused and didn't seem like "must-have" for most users, so I did not include them. That thread will be locked and I'd like to have all new suggestions put in this thread. If you have a MacBook, MacBook Pro, or MacBook Air running Mountain Lion 10.8 or 10.8.1, install the OS X 10.8.2 update right away through the Apple Menu > Software Update, and enjoy the immediate battery boost.I've taken the liberty of editing the "Must-have" Mac apps down to a smaller list. The difference in battery performance between OS X 10.8.1 and 10.8.2 is night and day and should give users who suffered under prior versions at least an hour or two longer while on the go. Interestingly, the release notes of 10.8.2 make no mention of battery improvements, but if you have experienced any reduction in battery life with Mountain Lion then updating to the latest version will demonstrate very obvious increases. This was shown by the Battery Time Remaining app and proved accurate while running a clock to observe battery drain under standard usage conditions at 70% display brightness. The largest boost was found on a 2011 MacBook Air 11″ model, which jumped from 3.4 hours to 6 hours on a full charge.
